The iconic religious buildings visited for the project
Last month, TMC’s Mass Communication students concluded a successful collaboration with Duck & Hippo, Singapore, to produce a Documentary feature promoting various iconic religious buildings in Singapore. This was done as part of the coursework requirements of the Documentary Production module in TMC Higher Diploma in Mass Communication (HDMC) course.
With Mr. Lance Ong from Duck & Hippo as the group’s creative consultant and Mr. Aaron Rao as the module lecturer, the students worked round the clock and captured fascinating scenes of religious practices in Singapore, in efforts to showcase the diverse cultures that Singapore is well known for.
As this film production was a group project, students learned the importance of teamwork while working on a tight timeline. Our HDMC student, Dora Du, shared:
"This project brought me closer to my classmates. Through discussions, we revised and improved our ideas, and got to know each other better. The project was very interesting because everything was worked by us based on the specifications provided by Duck and Hippo, Singapore."

Indeed, having the chance to work on real industry project was great exposure for our Mass Communication students, and a valuable portfolio to include in their resumes. Dora revealed, “The content required wasn’t very difficult but because we had many places to film, time management was a challenge. If given another opportunity for a similar project, we would speed up our idea creation process and allocate more time for filming and editing. All in all, it was a wonderful experience working on this project for our Documentary module and I’m thankful for the chance to work with real-life industry people during my study at TMC Academy.”
The 3 month long collaboration that began with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing concluded with the HDMC students receiving Certificate of Appreciation for their active participation and contribution to the project. This is another step that TMC is taking to ensure students get the best experience possible to strive for higher quality of work.
Here’s the final documentary, produced by our HDMC students, for Duck & Hippo, Singapore:
