Finishing up the last email at work, while constantly glancing at the time on your desktop. (tick tock) Grabbing your bag and books, and making a dash for your usual takeaway dinner. (tick tock) Rushing into lecture with another classmate you met at the bus stop; who looks like he had a really rough day at work. (tick tock) Spotted an empty seat right at the front of the lecture hall (everyone loves the back rows), and the 2 hours lecture begins, accompanied with the growling of the tummy.

Sounds familiar?
In this article, we interview a couple of TMC Academy part-time students who have made it or still trying to make it through their routine of working through the day and studying through the night. We hope to motivate more courageous souls to embark on this self-improvement journey![/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”23636″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Nadia Sarif Project Manager, Nano Equipment Pte. Ltd.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]Nadia graduated with Bachelor of Science (Honours) Health Psychology[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Q: What made you decide to take on part-time studies?
Nadia (N): I’m interested in the field of Psychology; however I know that the only way to afford my studies is through part-time. In that way, I am able to work during the day and still learn in the evening. It’s like killing two birds with one stone. Earn while you learn.
Q: What are the challenges you faced while juggling between work and studies, and how do you overcome them?
N: The main challenge was definitely trying to stay focused during lessons. Not forgetting, having to spend your weekends working on assignments. I overcome these challenges by instilling in myself that these difficulties are only temporary. It will all be worth it soon.
Q: Share an interesting incident that happened during your studies, as a part-time student.
N: Once, I was late for class and had to rush my way there. But when I reached the class, I was the only one there – everyone else was late too. (haha)[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”23635″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Logesvari A/P Vyapiry Hotel Concierge, Wilby Estate International Pte. Logesvari (L): I wanted to improve my knowledge and skills to help in my job as a Senior Concierge in Serviced Apartments.
Q: Why choose TMC Academy?
L: The location of the school is very important as it helps to save travelling time. I chose TMC as it’s near my office, and the nearby facilities and eateries makes it more convenient.
Q: What keeps you going in your studies?
L: The lecturers continually inspire me to strive for my goals and I received a lot of guidance and care from them, which helped greatly.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”23634″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Doris Woon [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]Doris is currently studying Professional Diploma in Accounting and Finance[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Q: What made you decide to take on part-time studies? What’s your motivation as a mature student?
Doris (D): I find that my job opportunities are stagnant and decided to take on part-time studies to further upgrade my skills and knowledge. There is no limit to studies and I want to prove that even as a mature student I can still perform as well as my peers in exams.
Q: What are the challenges you faced while juggling between work, studies and even family, and how do you overcome them?
D: I have to put in extra effort to cope with studies, work and family. Having to deal with my daughter’s sickness as a single parent is harder to cope but as her sickness has stabilised, I can put in more time to study.
Q: Share an interesting experience/incident that happened during your studies, as a part-time student.
D: During my Statistics module, I have a very helpful lecturer, Mr. Ashok Kumar, who always starts his lectures earlier by an hour for mature students to catch up and also prepared extra assessment work for us to practice. I have proved to him that I can excel with his extra hours of lessons.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”23637″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Ravindran Sadanandan Counsellor, Social Service Sector[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]Ravindran graduated with Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Q: Why did you choose to study Psychology for your part-time studies?

R: The courses offered were from a recognised university and they were reputable and credible.
Q: What motivates you in your pursuit of a degree?
R: As a full time working professional, managing a part time degree course was certainly a challenge. The close interaction with the lecturers, their dedication and expertise also kept my interest alive.
