AEIS Preparatory Courses for International Students | TMC Academy Singapore

In 2023, the Singaporean job market experienced significant growth, with 88,400 new roles created. Of these, 83,500 were filled by non-residents, indicating a substantial increase in international workers. This trend is particularly pronounced in sectors such as construction and manufacturing, where the demand for skills and human resources exceeds local supply. Most of these roles (77%) were due to the rise in work permits and other work-pass holders. The remaining increase in non-resident employment (approximately 18,700) was for Employment Pass (EP) and S Pass holders, highlighting the diverse composition of the non-resident workforce.

AEIS Preparatory Courses

Many international workers come to Singapore with their children, and adjusting to a different educational system can be challenging for both the parents and the children. Parents often feel worried and anxious about how their children will adapt, and children often miss their school friends and can initially struggle with the new educational system.

This is where TMC Academy plays a vital role in assisting international students in preparing and adapting to the Singaporean educational system, particularly through its Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) program.

Why the AEIS is so important

The AEIS Admissions are essential for international students to pass before accessing the Singaporean public education system.

The public education system in Singapore is well regarded due to its rigorous curriculum, high academic standards, and the choice it provides students as they progress through the educational system. Therefore, places are sought after. The AEIS provides a structured and transparent admission process for international students, ensuring fairness and clarity in school placements.

Given the importance of the AEIS, it is essential for children to have the preparation and support that TMC Academy can provide.

There are other benefits the AEIS program provides to international students:

Academic integration

The AEIS assists students in integrating into Singapore’s mainstream education system by ensuring they are prepared to meet the rigorous academic standards. This is important as it builds students’ confidence in passing the AEIS, achieving their academic goals, and succeeding.

Holistic Development and Proficiency

By participating in AEIS, students interact with and learn from other international students, which exposes them to a diverse and multicultural environment. This helps build their cultural awareness, which is essential given the multicultural nature of Singaporean society.

AEIS also builds students' language skills and mathematical understanding and gives them a sense of competency in these areas. Both the skills and sense of competency are essential for ongoing academic success.

Future Opportunities

Achieving success in AEIS admissions and obtaining a place in the public education system opens the door to higher education opportunities, such as studying for a Bachelor’s degree or higher diploma at TMC Academy. It also provides career opportunities in Singapore and globally.

TMC Academy – AEIS Programs

TMC Academy has a long and rich history as one of Singapore’s leading Academic Institutions. Founded in 1981, the Academy has evolved and kept pace with the changing educational landscape in Singapore.

This history and knowledge give them the expertise to provide the AEIS program and the understanding of the challenges and anxieties that international students may face when studying for their AEIS.

The preparatory courses run by TMC are designed for students who want to achieve a place in Primary 2,3,4, or 5 or Secondary 1, 2, or 3 in government schools in Singapore.

Preparatory Courses (Primary 2 to Primary 5)

These preparatory courses are six months in duration. The two modules are English and mathematics.

Intensive courses are also provided for students. These intensive courses are for three months rather than the recommended six months.

Preparatory Courses (Secondary 1 to Secondary 3)

These preparatory courses also run for six months; however, students can elect to take an elective module—English preparatory.

Intensive courses are also provided to Secondary students.

TMC’s Placement Success Rate

Achieving a place in Singapore’s public education system is competitive and highly sought-after. Placement often depends on the number of vacancies within the system. Being provided with a place is granted by Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE).

However, students who prepare for the AEIS Admissions through TMC are highly likely to successfully obtain a place in a local government school. For example, students who have completed AEIS for Primary 2, 3, 4, and 5 have achieved placement within local schools.

Students who studied for AEIS in the February 2024 Primary 4 and 5 cohort all received placement in local schools.

The competition for a place is higher for students studying for entry into Secondary 1 to Secondary 3. This is why it is essential to give your child the best opportunity by enrolling them in the preparatory course through TMC Academy.

In addition to the AEIS preparatory course, TMC Academy provides several other preparatory courses, such as the Preparatory Course for Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (O Level) Examination and the Preparatory Course for Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Advance Level) Examination.

This means the Academy is well-placed to provide the academic support and assistance children and young people require to prepare for their AEIS.
